Colon cancer staging is the diagnosis method of the colon cancer on the basis of its determined stages. Cancer is a very dangerous disease, and without doubt one of those diseases that claim the most number of human lives every year. Most people think that cancer has no cure. However, the truth is that if cancer is detected early enough – it can be prevented.

Then again, there are two kinds of cancers – malignant cancer and benign cancer. In the former case, the cancer spreads to different parts of the body and can eventually results in death. In the latter case, the cancer is very much localized which means that it can be completely removed surgically. Colon cancer is a type of cancer that is associated with the colon and rectal area of the body and is differentiated into the different colon cancer stage. In order to gain a better understanding of colon cancer – one has to know the colon cancer staging. So what exactly is colon cancer staging?

Colon cancer staging refers to the different stages of colon cancer progression which includes of the stage 4 colon cancer and stage iii colon cancer. The importance of stage 4 colon cancer and stage iii colon cancer is that before these stages most forms of colon cancer can be easily cured or in the worst case the patient will be able to survive for a long time.

During stage iii colon cancer, the cancer cells or cancerous growth starts to invade the nearby lymph nodes. However it would not have spread to other parts of the body yet.

Stage 4 Colon Cancer

During stage 4 colon cancer, the cancerous cells would have started spreading to different sites in the body, like the liver etc.

From here on it’s rather difficult to treat and in most cases treatment techniques – will weaken the individual to devastating amounts. In many a way; the patient just survives.
